Frogley Summer Tour - Day 13

Day 13: Jamesport, MO to Glenwood, IA

Today was a beautiful day. Though we learned that Missouri is HOT and HUMID. Way worse than anywhere else we’ve been so far.

We started our day with a short drive from the rental to Adam-ondi-Ahman. We had a lovely walk from the parking lot to the overlook. We had a great discussion about what had already happened in that location, and what will come in the future.

We took another drive through backroads and visited the temple site in Far West. We loved the location of that temple. Someday it will be a beautiful beacon to many for miles and miles.

Our next stop was Liberty Jail. By the time we arrived at the visitor’s center it was lunchtime, so we had a quick picnic lunch and then went through the tour. I was again reminded of how awful the jail must have been. Dave and I discussed how their sufferings in the jail must have been made easier and harder by the news of what was happening to the saints throughout the state. Easier because it gave them perspective on their own personal inconveniences, and more difficult because there was nothing they could do to help those they loved.

After Liberty we drove to the visitor’s center in Independence. We watched a great video on families where we moved through various sets as we watched it. That was pretty cool. Then we did the same thing moving through various sets learning about some of the persecutions that occurred in Missouri.

After visiting the Missouri sites, we took a scenic drive around Kansas City until we got to a bridge where we could cross into Kansas just to say we’d been there. Then we crossed back into Missouri and headed north into Iowa.

Along the way we stopped at Burger King for dinner, and then headed to a MOMYS home just outside of Glenwood, IA. We arrived at their home around 7pm and were able to play around for 40 minutes or so, then they shared some ice cream with us. We had a lovely time and I was able to get the required picture to get my shield!

Around 8:30 we left our new friends’ home and headed to downtown Glenwood where we are staying in a loft above Chiropractic office right on the town square. It’s cute and has lots of character, and Dave and I got a king-size bed, which is nice. The kids all went to sleep fairly easily and now that it’s 11pm, I hope I’ll be able to get to sleep quickly too. We have a super early morning tomorrow.
