Changes & Projects
The only thing constant in this life is change.
We experienced a LOT of that this summer.
About mid-April we discovered that we were expecting baby #8!
That news marked the beginning of a series of unexpected events which culminated in an out-of-state move for our family. We didn't make the official decision to move until about mid-June, but things happened quickly after that and by the end of June we had a solid offer on our house. We found a new home in Layton, Utah and moved into our new home mid-August.
Another wild thing we chose to do in the midst of all this was to get a puppy. In spite of the many thousands of times we have told the kids we would never get a dog. For some reason when we found out this puppy was available, we just couldn't resist. She seemed to be calling for us, and we decided to go for it.
Dave and I had talked several times about what we might be looking for in a dog IF we ever got one. We agreed we would want a puppy, who could be fully socialized in our large family from the beginning. We would want a dog that would be friendly, one that would be large enough that our kids couldn't break it. And we would want one that would play fun games with the kids, like fetch. The more research we did on this particular dog, the more we felt she would be a great fit.
So, here's introducing Shasta, our border collie/lab mix.
It's been a crazy couple of months as we have attempted to quickly settle into our new life. While trying to make the house fit us, I decided to embark on several wood-working projects to fill some needs and wants. Thank you pinterest for helping me solidify my ideas. :) Knowing that I have a limited time before winter sets in, and before baby comes, I decided to limit myself to the 7 projects that I knew would make the biggest difference in our home.
After much planning and online searching, I spent Labor Day morning at Lowe's buying most of the tools, lumber, and hardware I would need for my 7 projects. I officially finished all 7 wood projects before the end of September. :) Now I have dozens of other projects to complete before this baby comes.
I decided each project deserved it's own post, so here's the links to those:

With D the day we picked her up from my cousin's house. |
Stretching out on the floor at my cousin's. |
She sleeps like this all.the.time. |
She doesn't sleep constantly, but that's usually the best time to get a picture of her... she has SO MUCH ENERGY! |
The boys love to snuggle her. |
A rare picture of her awake and holding still... but she's getting so big, so fast! |
Sometimes she really seems to act like a person. She prefers to shove her pad to one side of the crate, and she's already filling it up so fast. We've already moved the divider back too. |
I love moments like this. This is exactly why I wanted a larger dog. |
