Thensalogue
noun - a quote from a movie or book that has been adapted slightly to fit the current situation. ie. a paraphrase.
My family of origin has some fun quirks and I love them to pieces. My oldest brother (who is 8 years younger than me) loves movie quotes... sometimes a little more than the rest of us. So much so, that he made up a word for the process of quoting movies and adapting them slightly (see above). He also made up other silly words, which our family uses on a regular basis now. The most notable is "thrithamuth - (1) noun - the blast of hot air that hits you such as when opening the oven or dishwasher. (2) adj. - happy, only when referring to koalas."
A thensalogue can also refer to a mash-up of quotes, such as when two of my younger sisters left a 10 minute message on my answering machine freshman year of college, made up entirely of random quotes from an assortment of sources.
Today I was thinking of just such a thensalogue, as I reflected on what my current life as mother of 6 is like. The following is a short, somewhat disjointed, rambling thensalogue from this morning (for a fun game, see if you can place each of the quotes):
"Oh, the things we've seen and it's only 8 in the morning!"
"Did [you] eat that or rub it on [your] face?"
"How do I look? ... (Disgustingly horrifying) ... You ALWAYS know what to say!"
"She'll never find out... that's the point of LYING!"
"Don't tell me, we're about to go over a huge waterfall ... (yup) ... sharp rocks at the bottom?... (most likely) ... bring it on"
"Do NOT eat ... the free, pistachio, ice cream... it... has... TURNED!"
"No, I'm just saying. I thought you'd want to be self-conscious for the rest of your life."
"That's NOTHING for NOTHING!"
"Dun, dun, dun... I'm done"

| Here is said brother (David), last Friday, less than an hour after returning from his 2 year mission to El Salvador. My mother is never letting him go again. |
